October 2009
We’re making tremendous progress! We’ve now got 15 songs on the album, and they’re all originals. Paul and I have been working feverishly lately on a number of different tunes, especially “Whisper”, my tune for the fallen heroes and victims of 9/11. It incorporates an original stirring score by mutual friend Christine Ayala, coupled with actual 9/11 broadcasts and sounds. It is truly moving and honoring. We’ve actually got two others more or less in the can in terms of sequencing, and I’ve begun drum loop sequencing for several of the other songs. We’re almost at live rehearsal stage which means that we’ll be able to take the songs and melodies and rehearse them with the pre-selected musicians whom Paul has lined up for the album. When those “feels” are done and scratch recordings are made, we’ll then be able to complete layering of additional components and sounds. I’m truly stoked.
The first song written for the album, “Phoenix”, is almost entirely finished. This song is, in my opinion, my best lyrical piece, and is also one of the most energetic of the album. The legend of the phoenix bird is compared to the new birth we’re offered in Christ, and the hope of a better and exciting tomorrow resulting from a fresh start.
Another of the songs that I’m working on that has me extremely stoked is a song entitled “Scarlet” which covers the loneliness, isolation and ostracism one can feel from a major catastrophe, and the hope of promise that carries one through such times.
While an initial release date was projected for late 2009, we’re anticipating that the album would be complete in the spring of 2010, and we’ll keep you posted. Thanks for checking back for updates!
